About Me
Hey there! My name is Gina Medina; I am a University of Houston alumna with Bachelor of Arts degrees in Broadcast Journalism and in Spanish. My goal with these degrees is to give a voice to the voiceless and be able to properly inform a neglected community.
I was born and raised in Mexico City and moved to Houston at 11 years old. In addition to the financial benefit of moving to the U.S., our American Dream included gender equality.
I grew up with environmentalist, feminist, anti-corruption, educator parents, advocates for a better future, so it is really no surprise that I am hyper-aware of the faults in our society, but I am also inspired to fix them.
Education and information have had a central role in my life, as they are two of the strongest driving factors for a better world.
Throughout college, I focused on combining my background and interests with my field of study. With classes like “Latino Journalism,” “Immigration, Hispanics and Data,” and “US Hispanics and Language” I was able to deepen my knowledge of Hispanic and Latino cultures and develop the skills necessary to share them.
Other courses like “News and Social Media,” “Graphic Applications,” “Multi-Media Journalism,” and “Photojournalism” diversified my visual communication skills and improved my Adobe Cloud knowledge.
“Written Communication for Hispanic Heritage Learner,” “Spanish/English Translation,” and “Literary and Legal Translation” allowed me to strengthen my written communication in Spanish and increase fluidity in transitioning from one language to the other.
These courses, my background and my perspective have created a unique mosaic of expertise and interests that make me who I am today. I am thankful for the opportunity to have polished these skills, and I am optimistic that they will help me create a better world.
